Prime Ministers GP Access Fund - Project Fully Mobilised

Manchester Primary Care Partnership working in collaboration with its three share holder federations are delighted to announce the full mobilisation of its 12 GP Extended Access community locations and 3 GP- A&E hubs across North, South and Central Manchester.

Extended GP Access enables patients registered with a North, South or Central Practice ((91 in total) to see a GP outside of normal surgery hours. The Service is available Monday to Friday between 18.00-20 .00 and from 12 Community Hubs and our 3 GP – A&E locations, 7 days a week between 8-8pm for planned and routine appointments.

The service is particularly valuable for workers who may find it difficult to make an appointment during weekdays, for family members supporting an elderly relative, children returning unwell from school and need to be seen. Extended GP access enables patients, parents and family members/carers to make and attend appointments which are mutually convenient or for when the patient’s own surgery appointments are fully booked.

To make an appointment at one of the 15 location mentioned below, simply ring your own surgery and the receptionist will be happy to discuss the options available and the most appropriate location with you.

Practice Engagement Meeting

The Chair of MPCP Ltd secured funding from the BMA to support ongoing engagement and communication with practices involved with the Prime Ministers GP Access Fund Project, previously referred to and known as the Prime Ministers Challenge fund and referred to locally as Manchester Access.

The Manchester Primary Care Partnership Ltd (MPCP) in conjunction with its three share holder federations hosted three Practice Engagement Events during November 2015 which were sponsored by the BMA.

Invitations were extended to all 91practices across Manchester, their GP’s, clinicians and practice staff. The meeting where held over a two week period, Primary Care Manchester Ltd (Central Manchester CCG area) was held at Hough End Conference Centre on the 10th, followed by Northern Health GPPO Ltd (North Manchester CCG area) on the 11th at the Vermilion Restaurant and South Manchester GP Federation Ltd (South Manchester CCG area) took place on the 17th at Chancellor Hotel and Conference Centre.

All three events were well attended with good multiple disciplinary representation and geographical coverage. During each meeting the Prime Minister GP Access Fund Project was reviewed, looking at the successes to date – Mobilisation of 12 community location and 3 GP A&E hubs , steady increasing utilisation. challenges – Emis issues and sustaining workforce ,work yet to be done – recruitment ,induction of Nurse and HCA roles , launch of external publicity campaign (January 2016) and App. Each meeting also took the opportunity to consider the opportunities and threats moving forward and dedicated a significant period of time for a Q&A and discussion session.

Patients back seven day GP service

Patients in Manchester are backing the city’s new seven day GP service, according to the results of a recent survey.

The innovative seven day scheme gives patients the option of booking appointments with GPs and nurses at evenings and weekends. The service is available from 6pm to 8pm during the week and 10am to 6pm at weekends.

Findings from Manchester Primary Care Partnership’s (MPCP) latest patient satisfaction survey* show that of the 342 patients surveyed, 97 percent said it was convenient and 95 per cent would recommend using it.

Feedback indicates that the convenient, flexible aspect of the service is proving popular with patients, especially working parents, shift workers and those in full-time and part-time employment.

Patients commented that it was ‘very helpful not to have to take time off work’ and, ‘good to be able see a GP at the weekend as I work away all week’.

Clinicians were cited as being ‘friendly’, ‘caring’ and ‘professional’ and the hubs were noted for being ‘accessible’ and ‘welcoming’.

Dr. Sohail Munshi, a GP at Five Oaks Family Practice in Beswick and Chair of MPCP, the city-wide GP federation delivering the service, said:

“I’m delighted to see that patients are benefitting from the extra evening and weekend appointments that we have introduced. This service has been set up to make it easier for those who struggle to get to the surgery during the day, such as school age children, working families and carers. We are proud to be able to provide this service for our patients in Manchester.”

The seven day service is available to any patient registered with a Manchester GP. Appointments must be booked in advance and patients can book appointments by contacting their own local GP surgery.

The evening and weekend slots are available from 15 GP hubs across the city. Twelve hubs are based at GP practices in the community and a further three hubs are located within local hospital trusts.
